John joined Afton in December 2015, after having worked as a reporter on the Technology, Telecom, Media and Entertainment team at Bloomberg News. Previously, he spent two years as a reporter for The Statesman while pursuing a master’s in applied and computational mathematics at the University of Minnesota Duluth from 2013 to 2015. While there, John taught undergraduate courses and worked closely with faculty and administration to address the school’s budgetary situation; he won several service awards for his work. From 2011 to 2013 John was an analyst in the Financial Institutions Investment Banking group at Jefferies LLC. He graduated from Harvard University in 2011 with a B.A. in economics and a minor in astrophysics.

At Afton, John has worked on projects ranging from estimating food service costs, projecting school-wide budgets, efficiency analyses, and Medicaid reimbursement maximization for clients in California, Texas, Illinois, and the District of Columbia.
