Dan’s work focuses on developing funding systems and policies that promote equity and access to high quality education. He utilizes advanced quantitative and qualitative analysis to better understand school needs and to improve school systems. Dan specializes in creating dynamic data and financial models, developing and forecasting policy options, and solving complex questions through data analysis.
Dan’s recent impact includes:
- Developing a dynamic data model to estimate special education needs across a major urban school system to improve access to special education resources.
- Developed new funding formula options for several large school systems in order to improve equitable access to resources, particularly for those furthest from privilege.
- Engaged in deep data analysis for a large urban school district to identify trends in how school resources are utilized and to develop recommendations on how they could better allocate resources to improve student outcomes.
Before working at Afton, Dan worked for seven years as a technical assistance provider in the housing, community development, and homelessness assistance space. He was previously an AmeriCorps member supporting low-income students in the classroom. Dan received a master’s degree in public policy at American University in 2022, and a bachelor’s degree at Oberlin College in 2014.
