Jorge Muñoz

Provides senior leadership from over 20 years in complex problem-solving regarding education, financial analysis and planning, and project execution at the national, state, and local levels.
As a Senior Director since 2020, Jorge has focused on creating equitable financial strategies across charter and school districts. Jorge’s experience spans the public, private, and non-profit sectors in K-12 education, charter education, and higher education. Jorge has led financial strategy and governance projects with school districts, charter schools, education non-profits, and philanthropic foundations. Jorge brings strategic out-of-the-box thinking, quantitative analytics, and talent development to a team focused on solving some of our society’s toughest challenges.
Jorge’s work has impacted charter and school districts across the country. He led efforts to create equitable and innovative funding policies, provide paths to financial sustainability, built financial leadership capacity, and helped implement effective resource allocation strategies.
Examples of Jorge’s work and impact include:
- Co-leading teams of advisors, constituents, and school leaders at school districts to reimagine school funding policies, leading to greater equity in resource allocation and greater influence of community voice;
- Leading dozens of charter school operators to stronger board governance, more sound organizational decisions, and improved financial health through facilitation of CFO communities of practice, training sessions, and executive coaching; and
- Developing talent at charter school operators and at Afton Partners in financial analysis, strategic resource planning, and governance.
Prior to joining Afton, Jorge was the Director of Vicariate Operations for Vicariate III at the Archdiocese of Chicago. The role supported Catholic School operations and finance, working side by side with the Regional Director of Academics in implementing sustainable school models. Jorge collaborated with the Office of Catholic Schools, as well as parishes, in crafting sustainable financial models to deliver world class Catholic education in Chicago. Prior to his work at the Archdiocese of Chicago, Jorge held several progressing roles in operations, finance, marketing, and technology at United Airlines, Northwestern Medicine, CNA Insurance, and Cambridge Technology Partners.
Jorge is a board member of a charter operator in Washington, DC and volunteers in STEM programs in his community. Jorge earned an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, a master’s in aeronautical science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and a bachelor’s in computer science from the University of Notre Dame. Jorge is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). Jorge is an aviation nut and enjoys flying real and remote-controlled aircraft, and he’s also a heavy metal drummer and guitar player. When not playing music or flying, his two boys and wife keep him grounded in reality.
