An impact-focused executive providing senior leadership with over 20 years of financial management experience.
In his role as Managing Director, Josh oversees practice area work and advises charter schools on financial sustainability, develops internal financial strategic capabilities, assists with the execution of acquisition and/or divestiture planning, and provides start-up support.
Josh’s consulting leadership roles include:
- Co-leading the financial restructuring of a multi-state charter network,
- Advising a large charter network on an operational restructuring plan, and
- Coaching early-stage school leaders and new financial leaders on financial sustainability, organizational design, and board communication.
Prior to joining Afton, Josh was the Chief Financial Officer of STRIVE Preparatory Charter School and then Rocky Mountain Preparatory schools after its merger with STRIVE. For more than 10 years, Josh oversaw all finance, accounting, and treasury functions as the organization grew from a two-school operation to a 12-school network. In his last year, he led the financial integration associated with the merger of two charter school networks.
Before working with charter schools, Josh had multiple senior financial roles in the for-profit space where he supported an initial public offering, a private equity-backed start-up, and several Fortune 500 organizations.
Josh holds a bachelor’s in political science from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA in finance from the Stern School of Business at New York University.
