Scott Milam co-founded Afton Partners in 2011 with Carrie Stewart, drawing on a wealth of experience to align financial strategies with student needs and support highly effective, innovative school models across the country. His career has spanned corporate restructuring, public sector transformation, and education finance, all with a focus on creating long-term, financially sustainable change with measurable impact.

At Afton, Scott has helped school systems across the country drive transformative practices that benefit the students who need it most. From guiding large school districts in implementing student-based funding systems to ensuring that private and public grants deliver lasting benefits, Scott’s goal has always been clear: make every dollar work harder and smarter for the communities it serves.

Before Afton, Scott’s career focused on corporate restructuring across various sectors, including manufacturing, telecommunications, logistics, financial services – as well as large public sector entities. This blend of public and private sector experience prepared him to take on the complexities of education finance. Today, Scott continues to provide strategic leadership at Afton while broadening his focus to ventures that improve lives through lifelong learning, outdoor recreation, and environmental sustainability. He also serves as a board member for local nonprofits and remains passionate about spending time outdoors—especially in places where snow-capped mountains, not buildings, command the skyline.
