Kevin Wenzel

Senior Director, K-12 Education Finance

  • Biography

Kevin began his career as a teacher in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, teaching 7th and 8th grade math at a Title I middle school. Following his time in the classroom, Kevin joined DC Public Schools’ Office of Teaching and Learning, supporting curriculum writing, professional development, and educational technology implementations. Kevin then joined DC’s Deputy Mayor for Education’s office, coordinating budget, finance, and performance management activities across all of DC’s education and workforce agencies, including stewardship of the Uniform Per Student Funding Formula (UPSFF) for DCPS and DC public charter schools. Immediately prior to joining Afton, Kevin served in DCPS’s Office of Resource Strategy, leading the district’s budget strategy, grant administration, program monitoring, and school finance functions, including the development and implementation of a new budgeting model for all DCPS schools.

Kevin earned his BA in Public Policy and Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and his MPA from the Maxwell School of Syracuse University.
