Andrea Cammilleri

- Biography
Andrea Cammilleri is a Director at Afton focusing on impact measurement, business development, strategic communications, and field monitoring. She brings a range of experiences working with state governments, school districts, charter schools, and many other connected partners in the public and private sectors. She has overseen communications work in every role she has held and always embraces the opportunity to leverage her content knowledge in education while improving systems and external messaging to reach all stakeholders and beneficiaries.
Andrea’s most recent role was at the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families, where she worked to align strategy and pandemic-era funding opportunities with the early childhood state system strategic plan. She collaborated across state government and led development of various workforce- and equity-focused initiatives while striving to shore up the early care and education business model statewide. She is particularly proud to have helped guide the start-up and implementation of the Governor’s Leadership Council on Early Years in Wisconsin. Previously, she worked for 13 years at the University of Wisconsin-Madison developing standards and professional learning opportunities for WIDA, a 41-state consortium focused on PreK-12 multilingual learner education. Early in her career, she worked in health care as a translator and liaison to the Latinx community. She also taught middle school Spanish and has supported community English as a second language programs as they help individuals meet their education, career, and social goals, from early childhood years through adulthood. Andrea holds an MA from UW-Madison in Latin American, Caribbean, and Iberian Studies, as well as a BA from Luther College in English and Spanish with a minor in International Studies.
